The ‘Listology Methodology’ meant you got things done. Significant milestones were achieved. Tasks were closed. Lists were completed. Projects were finished.
It worked. It gave you success. And in accordance with the ‘Listology Methodology’ Chloe had six lists in total.
Nothing much happened in that town, well apart from the usual stuff - affairs, emigration, employee theft from the credit union. So imagine our surprise when Brian Murphy was found dead with his head battered in the day after St. Stephen’s night. And it was on McSweeney Street too - the tiniest, shittiest little street in the town. Just a little slip of tarmac that went nowhere. A dead end.
When you’re self employed it’s so easy to fall into the trap of ‘busy foolishness’. After all, there’s only one person to do everything - you. And before you know it, you’re running around, being all things to all people and using all of your hours on many little tasks that offer little or no reward.
So how can you tell if you are busy? Or just a busy fool? I had an interview once for a content marketing role and the interviewer asked me what would be the first thing I would do if I got the job. My answer? Analyse the customer personas and compare them to the current content being produced to see how closely they aligned.
“Customer personas...right...ok...”, the interviewer mumbled in reply while his face remained blank and he went slightly pale. And then an eerie silence fell for a few seconds and I imagined tumbleweed and dust rolling past my feet. And in that moment, everything made sense. |
